What's to Love

With its foundation in Civil War reconciliation, Fitzgerald, Georgia remains a place of peace.

Historically unique. Fitzgerald was founded 30 years after the Civil War as a place where veterans from both sides of the conflict could live together in peace. The heritage of harmony lives on today in the blue and gray sidewalks, the quiet streets named for generals, and the Blue and Gray Museum.

Charming. The town’s parks, plazas, and antique stores offer the easy pace of a quiet Southern community. The elegant Dorminy-Massee House Bed and Breakfast, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, reflects the hospitable atmosphere of the town.

Cultural. A variety of cultural activities are presented by the Arts Council, while venues such as the Carnegie Center and the Fitzgerald Grand Theater provide live entertainment.

Ideally situated. Centrally located near several large cities, Fitzgerald offers small-town living without the isolation. Only an hour away from Albany’s performing and visual arts community, two hours from Tallahassee’s lively college scene, and three hours from Atlanta’s urban amenities.

Family friendly. Parks and playgrounds are plentiful throughout Fitzgerald, as are top-notch schools. Nearby Lake Blackshear Resort is an ideal destination for a family outing.
